What Can Veneers Fix?

Veneers are remarkably versatile. They can mask intrinsic tooth stains that do not respond to whitening (such as tetracycline or fluorosis staining), correct chipped or cracked teeth, close small gaps between teeth, lengthen worn or short teeth, improve the shape of misshapen or uneven teeth, and create a more uniform, symmetrical smile. They cannot correct significant bite misalignment or replace missing teeth.

The Veneer Process

The process begins with a consultation and smile design — we use photos and digital planning to show you your expected outcome before a single tooth is touched. A small amount of enamel (typically half a millimeter) is gently removed from the tooth surface to allow the veneer to sit flush. Impressions are taken and sent to our dental lab, where your custom veneers are crafted. You wear temporary veneers while your permanent ones are made. At your second appointment, the veneers are bonded permanently.

Porcelain vs. Composite Veneers

Porcelain veneers are the gold standard — they are stronger, more stain-resistant, and more natural-looking than composite alternatives. Composite veneers (dental bonding applied in layers) can be completed in a single visit and cost less, but they are more prone to staining and typically need replacement sooner. Dr. Baker will discuss which option suits your goals and budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are veneers permanent?

Because a small amount of enamel is removed during preparation, veneers are considered an irreversible procedure — the teeth will always need to be covered. However, the veneers themselves can be replaced when they eventually wear out.

Do veneers look fake?

Modern porcelain veneers are designed to mimic the light transmission and translucency of natural enamel. When custom-designed by an experienced dentist, they look completely natural.
